In 2013, a young high school boy went to his local pet store to adopt a pet reptile. Feeling confident with taking on the responsibility of raising a baby reptile, he went in there feeling like a proud new father. The boy went straight to the reptile display and began to examine the Leopard Geckos since a gecko was his first pick. As he stood there and watched, one gecko in particular came up to the glass, stood on its hind legs, and began scratching at the glass. The boy immediately knew that that was his gecko. He named the gecko Dapper, had the gecko put in a container and with the help of his older sister, paid for the gecko and they were all on their way home.
Every day, the boy sat watching the gecko sleep, eat, and roam around its terrarium. One day, however, as he turned the lights off for bedtime, he heard a strange sound coming from the gecko’s terrarium, but did not turn the light on so he wouldn’t disrupt it. Then, he heard the lid rise, and crash down on top of the terrarium. That startled the boy so much that he jumped up into an upright position and turned his light on and that’s when he saw it. The little Leopard Gecko wasn’t so little anymore. Dapper has morphed himself into a 6-foot tall dragon with large, purple wings and glowing golden scales. He had a long, beautiful spotted tail with a ball of flame at the end. It stared at the young boy as he sat at the opposite corner of the room, with the window open, getting ready to take flight. He talked to the boy, asking him to jump on his back and go with him to meet his dragon family, and the boy did. The boy fell in love with his gecko more and more as they would go out to fly every night, building the most beautiful friendship known to man.
