The Death Eaters are known as the group of Lord Voldemort’s loyal followers who practice the dark arts without fear to going against the wizarding law. Many state their main belief is that the world should be free of anyone who isn’t pure-blooded (muggles and half-bloods). They can be seen often wearing black hoods and masks covering their faces. They are said to often have Dark Marks, as seen in the photo below, burned in their left forearm.
According to the former headmaster at Hogwartz, Death Eaters were "They were a motley collection; a mixture of the weak seeking protection, the ambitious seeking some shared glory, and the thuggish gravitating toward a leader who could show them more refined forms of cruelty."
When Voldemort fell (after the first Wizarding War), it was said that the Death Eaters disbanded, leaving some left searching for their master, others ended up in Azkaban. With the return of Voldemort, the Death Eaters made their return too. For many people, the return of the Death Eaters was hard to believe.
As said by many people, the fall of the Death Eaters happened after the second Wizarding War, when their leader Voldemort was killed. Some even say the Dark Mark on their arms fadded into scars after Voldemort died.
